So many web design folks don’t have any sort of picture of themselves on their websites. Why not? I really think they’re missing a great opportunity to offer a more personal connection to who they are. A business owner is NOT hiring a computer to build their website, they’re hiring a PERSON.
I should also make mention that I often refer in my writing to “us” at Sandhill Website Design. Even though I’m an independent, freelance designer I will occasionally hire my own freelancers to handle sticky coding issues, Flash animation, or specialized content writing. My extended, virtual team can be quite a juggle at times. But, I owe some great thanks to all of their sub-specialty expertise.
No woman is an island.
If you’re at all curious about some of my other qualification and diverse background please refer to my LinkedIn page. I’d love to make a connection with you there, too. (I may eventually post my full resume here. But, then again why should you care what’s in my resume? My work is much more related to what you’ll be getting when you hire me.)
Social Media, aka Web 2.0
At this time I’m really not into the social media scene– I just don’t have the time. I have a page at Facebook and a Twitter account (as well as Delicious and Digg), but there’s really not much there for now. I feel my time is better spent building websites and writing articles and blog posts.
Social media can be a “slippery slope” in terms of time commitment to make it work. Managing a social media campaign, I feel, is much more an art than a science. You can gain some statistical analysis from traffic through social media sources, but gauging its effectiveness is not easy.
